Good games start with respect.

• Be fair and respectful. You choose your own level. Treat someone who is still learning with the patience you would have wanted at your first game.
• MatchUp is 18+. Your profile is you: correct details, one account per person, no fake profiles.
• A meeting is a plan that someone has made time for. Cancel in good time if you cannot make it.
• Use the chat to arrange games. Keep photos and texts appropriate: no spam, no advertising, no unwanted advances, and do not share other people’s contact details.

Nobody here is put down for a characteristic, not in the chat, not in a profile, not at a meeting: origin, skin colour, nationality, language and social background, religion and belief, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, illness, age, body, appearance, playing strength.

The same goes for hate speech, bullying, sexual harassment, advances after a no, stalking, photographing without consent, threats and violence. The same rule applies when it is meant as a joke. Anyone who encourages others to do it is treated like the person who does it.

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour: we remove such content and ban the accounts that spread it. What happens at a meeting counts like a message in the chat: an insult does not become harmless because it was not typed.

The app does not accept usernames, bios, team names, chat messages or free-text meeting places that contain offensive words: the server checks them when they are saved.

• You can report someone on their swipe card, in a chat or on their profile. In a chat you can also report a single message: press and hold it. Reporting also blocks the person for you.
• Blocking works immediately and needs no reason: you no longer see each other in MatchUp, and open meetings between you are cancelled.
• You can also write to us at office@matchupsports.app, for example if something happened at a meeting: when it was, who it involves, what happened.

Reporting in good faith never counts against you, not even when the suspicion turns out to be wrong. Using a report to get rid of someone does.

Our team reviews reports. We review reports of objectionable content within 24 hours. The team can dismiss a report, delete reported messages, show a profile again or keep it hidden, and ban accounts. A ban is always decided by a person, and every decision is logged.

If three different people who have had contact with someone (for example in a chat or a game) report their profile, the app hides it automatically until our team has reviewed the reports. The person concerned sees this in the app.

If we delete content, hide a profile or ban an account, the person concerned receives a statement of reasons, in the app or by e-mail: the decision, the reasons for it and how to complain.

If you think a decision is wrong, write to us within 6 months via Help & support in the app (Profile → Edit profile → Help) or to office@matchupsports.app. A person on our team reviews it again and replies to you within 14 days. You can also go to court. The contractual basis is in the Terms of Service.

To review reports, our team sees them and the data it needs for the review. It also reads what you write in the “MatchUp Team” chat, the welcome chat, to improve the app, and it sees chess board photos to check disputed results.

• Enter the real result, even when it goes against you. False result reports are not allowed.
• You enter results only after your meeting has started. Late cancellations can count as a loss.
• In meetings with check-in, whoever is the only one to tap “I am here” wins automatically; if nobody checks in, the match does not count. In chess nobody wins through the check-in: if one side is missing, the match does not count.
• You enter a ranked chess result only with a photo of the board after the game. Photograph only the board, no faces.
• Blocking never counts as a loss: before the start the match ends without a rating change, after it the result counts.

You arrange meetings yourselves. MatchUp is not the organiser and is not liable for meetings, venues or injuries. The app shows you these tips before a first meeting, and you can find them at any time under Help → Meet safely:

• Meet in a public place, for example at the court or in the hall.
• Tell someone where you are and who you are playing with.
• Plan your own way there and back, without relying on a stranger for a ride. Only share your address or phone number once you feel safe.
• Trust your gut. If something does not feel right, you are free to leave at any time. You can cancel, block or report without giving a reason.
• In an emergency: 112 (European emergency number) or 133 (police).

• We are not there when you meet. Public space belongs to nobody, including us: we cannot send anyone away there.
• The word filter works from a list and does not catch everything. It does not filter comments on star ratings, which no other player sees. You can report anything that gets through.
• A ban keeps nobody out technically. Anyone who comes back with a new e-mail address can create a new account. Tell us and we will ban it again.
• Age is self-declared. Use under 18 is not permitted.

For a criminal offence the police are responsible, not us. Write to us anyway: we can also ban the account. If you have questions or suggestions about these rules, email office@matchupsports.app.
