Good games start with respect.

• You choose your own level to help find suitable players. There is deliberately no leaderboard at launch. Treat someone who is still learning with the patience you would have appreciated at your first match.
• A confirmed slot is a plan that someone has made time for. Cancel in the chat in good time if you cannot make it. Not turning up without a word can be reported.
• Enter the real score, even when it goes against you.
• Use the chat to arrange games. Do not post advertising, make unwanted advances or share other people’s contact details.
• You do not owe anyone a match. You can cancel, leave or stop without giving a reason.

Nobody here is put down for a characteristic, not in the chat, not in a profile, not at the table: origin, skin colour, nationality, language and social background, religion and belief, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, illness, age, body, appearance, playing strength.

The same goes for bullying, sexual harassment, advances after a no, stalking, photographing without consent, threats and violence. The same rule applies when it is meant as a joke. Anyone who encourages others to do it is treated like the person who does it.

If a case like that is confirmed, we close the account. First time, without a warning. Most games happen outdoors, at a public table in a park or on a court, and what happens there counts like a chat: an insult does not become harmless because it was not typed. A public table also belongs to everyone.

• Blocking works immediately and in both directions. You stop appearing to each other, the other person is not told, and you do not need a reason.
• After a confirmed match you can report unsportsmanlike behaviour or a wrong result. No-shows have their own report.
• Anything involving people, meaning discrimination, bullying, harassment or threats, goes to office@matchupsports.app: when it happened, who it involves, what happened. That is currently the only route that reliably reaches a human being.

Reporting in good faith never counts against you, not even when the suspicion turns out to be wrong. Using a report to get rid of someone does.

Our team looks at what you report. If it checks out, the person reported is blocked from matchmaking for a set period, or their account is closed for good. The measure depends on the severity of the incident. For the cases under “Where the line is”, we close the account.

We tell the person affected about every decision and give our reasons. You can appeal within six months at office@matchupsports.app, and a human being reviews it again. After that, an out-of-court dispute resolution body and the ordinary courts are open to you. The contractual basis is in the Terms of Service.

• We cannot read your chats, technically. We only learn what someone tells us.
• No filter is running, and we are not there at the table. Public space belongs to nobody, including us: we have no authority there and cannot send anyone away.
• A ban keeps nobody out technically. Anyone who comes back with a new address can create a new account. Tell us and we will close it again.
• Age is self-declared. Use under 16 is not permitted.

For a criminal offence the police are responsible, not us. Write to us anyway: we can also close the account. If you have questions or suggestions about these rules, email office@matchupsports.app.
